We are pleased to announce the release of the 2026 Cultural Policy Profile for the Netherlands.
We are very grateful for the enormous efforts of all experts and contributors. This profile was prepared and updated by Robert Oosterhuis in collaboration with Jenneke Harings, Heidi Heinonen, Sita Struijke, Thomas de Hoog, Rosa Schavione and Jonathan Verwey (Boekman Foundation), the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the National Centre of Expertise for Cultural Education and Amateur Arts (LKCA).
This comprehensive report details a cultural landscape in transition, balancing tradition with bold new social and digital mandates. The Netherlands is entering a new phase of cultural governance with reforms that aim to broaden access, strengthen regions, modernise media, and ensure a more socially just and digitally forward‑looking cultural field.

💰 Fair Practice: “Fair Pay” is now mandatory for state-subsidised institutions, backed by a €38.2 million annual structural investment.
