New: Cultural policy profiles from the Arab region

This year, the cultural policy profiles of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia found a new home at the website of the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends. With the support of the European Cultural Foundation (ECF), this valuable information is made publically available again....

The published profiles from the Arab region originate from a regional initiative launched in 2009 by Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy), a non-profit organisation supporting artistic creativity in the Arab region. The goal was to identify the main features of cultural policies in a selection of Arab countries, using the Compendium’s methodological grid as a basis, as well as to develop the capacities of researchers, cultural operators and activists to research, analyse and advocate for cultural policies in their environments. The research project was part of Culture Resource’s multiannual Cultural Policy Programme (supported by the ECF and Mimeta) and the cultural policy updates were coordinated by Ettijahat, a non-profit organisation that also stimulates the growth of independent culture in Syria.

The latest versions of the cultural policy profiles are from 2013-2014 and available as pdf’s in a special section of the Compendium’s website, which you can access by clicking here, or on the new button on our homepage. Plans are also in place to have these profiles redeveloped using the Compendium’s new grid and subsequently publishing them on the renewed version of that is set to be launched next year.
