Ukraine/ 4. Current issues in cultural policy development and debate

4.3 Other relevant issues and debates

The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, in collaboration with the PinchukArtCentre, will present Ukrainian contemporary art at the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia in Venice. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine is the Commissioner and The PinchukArtCentre will organise the National Participation of Ukraine.

The Collegium of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine appointed the Curators of the exhibition in October 2014. At the same time, the decision on funding has been changed: Ukraine will be represented using the budget of the Partners of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. This year, Björn Geldhof, one of the authors of the Conception of the national art project, is the Curator of the Ukrainian exhibition. The Ukrainian national pavilion will be located on the Riva dei Sette Martiri, on the main walking passway from Arsenale to Giardini. It will be a temporal glass construction. It stands as a model for a new, transparent Ukraine reaching out to the world. Ukraine will be represented by the young generation of Ukrainian artists, including Yevgenia Belorusets, Nikita Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Mykola Ridnyi & Serhiy Zhadan, Artem Volokitin, Anna Zvyagintseva and Open Group. The choice of the Curators in favour of the young generation of artists determined the official name of the Ukrainian project in Venice "Hope!". The 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia – will run from 9 May to 22 November 2015.
