Slovakia/ 2. General objectives and principles of cultural policy

2.1 Main features of the current cultural policy model

As part of its programme for Culture (2006-2010), the government is enacting a large number of legislation on: cultural financing; digital broadcasting; copyright; free press and the Press Agency; the audiovisual sector; museums and galleries; cultural heritage; import and export of cultural items; and the official language.

3.3 Inter-ministerial or intergovernmental co-operation

The most important programmes for the cultural sector identified in the Structural Funds (2007-2011) are the Information Society and the Regional Operational Programme.

In 2010, the Ministry intends to construct the Slovak digital library, modelled after the European Digital Library.

In order to increase the availability of literature and to promote books and music, the VAT rate was decreated to 10%.

Availability of TV digital terrestrial broadcasting should be completed by 2012.

7.3 Emerging partnerships or collaborations

The Zilina Self-Governing Region (ZSK) introduced a new cultural development plan for the period of 2008 - 2013.
