Adrian Debattista graduated from the University of Malta with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and later completed an M.A in Arts and cultural management at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh after being awarded an ESF funded scholarship. His dissertation was a research project focusing on shifting identities and roles of independent live music promoters in Malta as cultural intermediaries and their mobilisation of social, cultural and symbolic capital in stakeholder management.

Since 2015, he has been Research Associate at Arts Council Malta where he develops and manages the council's research programme as per its strategy, with the aim to produce a knowledge base from which effective policy recommendations can be made. Between 2016 and 2017 he coordinated, on behalf of the Council and also as part of the Valletta 2018 EcoC Foundation Evaluation and Monitoring Steering Committee, the methodological design and dissemination of the 2016 national cultural participation survey with malta's National Statistics Office.

He coordinated the editing of the final survey report and the complementary publication of chapters from different authors based on the findings, one of which was co-authored by himself. He is co-author of the first published paper based on an impact study of one of the Council's funding programmes, which focused on the collaboration of artists with schools. Recently Debattista was appointed by the Culture Directorate within the Ministry for Culture as a member of the working group designing and drafting Malta's next National Cultural Policy document for the years 2020-2025. He is also active in the local live music sector as a promoter, volunteer and occasional performer.
