Robert Oosterhuis (1960) studied sociology at the University of Amsterdam. During his study time he edited a historical journal and was personal secretary of the late Norbert Elias. After his study he worked in different positions in the art world: the Amsterdam Arts Council, Festival a/d Werf (festival for performing and visual arts), Theater Netwerk Nederland (a promoting agency for innovative theatre) and the Federatie Kunstuitleen (branche organisation visual arts). From 2006 until the present moment he is working at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science as senior civil servant. Since September 2009 he works as research co-ordinatior culture and media. He is member of the European Group on Museum Statistics (EGMUS). He (co-)published several articles, reviews and reports about cultural policy and the art world, and was member of the board of governers of a Dutch youth theatre company (Het Filiaal) and a dance company (Leine & Roebana). He incidently gives lectures at the University of Amsterdam and the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. From 2011 he is editor of the Handboek Cultuurbeleid (Handbook Cultural Policy).
