4.2.10 Gender equality and cultural policies

One of the main priorities in the new governmental programme A Denmark That Stands Together, amended in October 2011, is to improve gender equality in the cultural field (see chapter 4.1).

According to the Act on Gender Equality (from 2004), all public authorities are obliged to work towards gender equality in public administration (see The Ministry of Culture is – together with all the Danish ministries – obliged to observe the intentions in the Act on Gender Equality. The Ministry of Culture has contributed with a range of projects.

In 2005, the Ministry of Culture launched a report on gender equality in the Ministry itself and 22 cultural institutions. The report shows that the number of women in leading positions in Danish public institutions rose in the period from 2003.
