6.2.3 Sector breakdown

The total planned state budget for culture for 2012 is 833 206 812 HRK (approx.111 094 241 EUR), which shows a further decline in public funding of culture, as in 2011 it amounted to 953 564 151 HRK (approx. 128 184 453 EUR), while in 2010 it was 1 012 210 480 HRK (approx. 138 866 318 EUR). Thus, according to data available online, the current cultural budget now amounts to 0.64% of the total budget. This stronger decrease can also be attributed to the fact that protection of nature is no longer the responsibility of the Ministry of culture since December 2011, which usually amounted to approx. 7% of the budget of the Ministry.

When we exclude cuts as result of losing the purview of protection of nature, the size of the cuts of the cultural budget in 2012 amounted to approx. 4.5%. The cuts amounting to 38 million HRK were made in the field of protection of cultural goods, museums and galleries, funding for Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, Croatian Conservation Institute, and for salaries of the workers in the Ministry.
