Cultural Participation and Consumption

UPDATED DECEMBER 2008

Compendium authors present the most up to date information and data on participation trends in cultural life which is available in their countries. A distinction is made between attendance rates at publicly subsidised cultural institutions (museums, concert halls, theatres) and consumption of cultural activities, goods and services.

Country specific information on the latest public policy and programme initiatives to promote participation in cultural life is available from chapters 8.2.1 (trends and figures) and 8.2.2 (policies and programmes).

2008 CUPIX data on "Prices for Selected Cultural Goods and Services" is available! While this exercise is not intended to be a cultural price index in the traditional sense, it does help to illustrate the result of policy measures such as the fixed book price or differences between the prices of publicly funded services vs private sector culture industries.
