The following Table provides an overall breakdown of public cultural expenditure (excluding intergovernmental transfer payments) by the level of government in 2008/09 and 2010 in million EUR and a comparison with the figures from 2001.

The cultural budget of the federal government, provincial and municipal authorities as a whole rose by 25% between 2001 and 2010; for the municipalities it was significantly higher (64%; with a slight decrease between 2008/09 and 2010) than the federal government (6%) and the provincial governments (19%).
